Deepak Kamra
Deepak invests in a spectrum of technology companies, with particular expertise and focus on marketplaces, aerospace and enterprise software. Deepak is a passionate advocate for immigration and its importance to innovation. He started his career in the telecom software industry, which led to a startup and a successful IPO. He has been ranked on the Forbes Midas List twice, and is a former member of the board of directors of the NVCA. When not working with startups, Deepak plays bass in a local band. He received a B. Comm. from Carleton University and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.

Eric Young
Eric co-founded Canaan as a spin-out of GE Venture Capital. Over 32 years, Eric led multiple generations of Canaan investors and shaped the firm’s culture. Aside from advising Canaan’s investment team, Eric also served on multiple advisory boards outside of Canaan. All of them are involved in venture and entrepreneurial skill development, primarily connected to several different university-related ecosystems. He was particularly passionate about the commercialization of new technologies emanating from research. Eric earned a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Cornell University and an M.B.A. from Northwestern University.

Julie Grant
Julie is motivated by products that tangibly improve patients’ lives. She invests in early stage biopharma and digital health ventures, and leads new company formation efforts as an executive. Julie previously worked at Genentech across development and commercial divisions and also served on the board of the Biden Cancer Initiative and co-chaired Planned Parenthood NorCal’s IT Advisory Board. She holds an M.B.A. from Stanford, an MPhil. in BioScience Enterprise from Cambridge and a B.S. in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry from Yale.
Joydeep Bhattacharyya
Joydeep leads investments in enterprise and cloud platforms with a focus on security and automation. His experience is rooted in the founding days of Microsoft Office 365 and Microsoft Skype for Business, where he ran cross-functional teams including R&D, IT Operations and Customer Support. Immediately prior to joining Canaan, Joydeep led enterprise investments at Shasta Ventures. Joydeep received an M.B.A. from the Kellogg School of Management, where he was a CRTI fellow, and a B.E. degree in Computer Science and Engineering from Jadavpur University.

Bob Williams
Bob invests in seed stage security related startups that help to protect enterprise and cloud infrastructure, data, applications and users. He also advises Canaan on later stage security related investments. Prior to Canaan, Bob spent his first 20 years as an entrepreneur starting companies in the database and networking sectors which led to three IPOs and one acquisition. He then entered the venture business as a partner at Bay Partners for ten years, and most recently prior to Canaan he established the security practice for EMC/Dell Ventures – working closely with RSA and VMWare on infrastructure security deals. Bob holds an A.B. from Dartmouth College and an MBA from the Stanford Business School.

Brendan Dickinson
Brendan invests in startups that are changing the world with code in the fintech, e-commerce and frontier tech sectors. He built Canaan’s investment thesis in insurance and is passionate about companies that re-imagine how financial services products are purchased and sold. Previously, Brendan was a senior quantitative analyst at Lehman Brothers and Barclays Capital. He holds an M.B.A. with distinction from NYU Stern School of Business, an M.S. in Computer Science from Brown University, and a B.A. in Political Science from Bowdoin College.

Wende Hutton
Wende identifies, builds, and invests in companies that change medicine by bringing novel drugs, technologies, and devices to market. She has partnered with founders to deliver more than a dozen innovations to patients. She started her venture career as a General Partner at Mayfield. She previously held senior marketing roles at GenPharm and Nellcor. Wende holds an A.B. in human biology from Stanford University and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.
